1. Will I enroll my child this school year 2020-2021? (I-eenrol ko ba ang aking anak ngayong S.Y. 2020-2021?)
It’s for the parents to decide whether they enroll their child or not. DepEd puts premium on the welfare of the youth. Relative to this, we will ensure the best future for our children.
2. When is the opening of classes?
(Kailan ba ang pasukan?)
Classes will open on October 25, 2020. Classes will not be done face-to-face while there is no vaccine yet for COVID-19 nor online without internet signal, gadget, and load. Distance learning via modular approach (MELCs-based) will be used as the learning modality. Schools will provide printed materials for the learners. Other medium of communication which will help reach out learners like local TV, radio, or phones may be used.
3. Why should classes be opened when there is no vaccine yet for CoVID-19?
DepEd would like to see to it that children will continue to learn in spite of the crisis.
4. What is the enrolment period for S.Y. 2020-2021?
(Hanggang kailan ang enrolment ngayong S.Y. 2020-2021?)
Enrolment for S.Y. 2020-2021 opened last June 1, 2020 and continued until Juy 15, 2020. The LESF (Learner Enrolment and Survey Form) was used to determine the number and percentage of learners who will be enrolling this year as compared to last year. Late enrollees can still be accommodated.
5. How is enrolment done?
(Paano ginagawa ang enrolment?)
The parents and learners may not physically go to school to enroll for this school year. To comply with the health and safety requirements of the DOH and IATF particularly on social distancing, remote enrolment is being done by schools.
6. How are the documentary requirements submitted for enrolment?
Because of the present health crisis, submission of documentary requirements for enrolment can be done both online or physical provided that the minimum health standard is observed. The deadline for submission has been reset to December, 2020. This shall be observed by both public and private schools.
7. What learning modality will the Division use for the S.Y. 2020-2021?
For the S.Y. 2020-2021, the Division will use the modular distance learning.
8. What is Modular Distance Learning?
(Ano ang Modular Distance Learning?)
This refers to a learning delivery modality where learning takes place between the teacher and the learners who are geographically remote from each other during instruction. Learning is in the form of individualized instruction that allows learners to use self-learning modules (SLMs) in print or digital format/electronic copy, whichever is applicable in the context of the learner and other learning resources like Learner’s Materials, textbooks, activity sheets, study guides and other study materials. In here, the school will give modules and other learning materials, if there are, to the pupils/students for free and they will use these for their studies with the guidance of their parents or anybody who can assist in the house.
The entire process of the distribution and retrieval of modules and learners’ outputs has undergone pilot testing (dry run) in schools even before the opening of classes.
9. How will parents/guardians help the child?
The school is confident that with the assistance and facilitation of the parents or guardians a student will learn. Being the first teacher of every child, though may not be teachers by profession, DepEd believes that learning is more fun and genuine with parents. However, school teachers are still accountable in ensuring learning especially the attainment of competencies set per subject area.
10. Will there be online class? Why or why not?
(Magkakaroon ba ng online class? Bakit o bakit hindi?)
No. Not all students have gadgets and have internet connection.
11. How will the modules and learning outputs be distributed and collected?
Modules can be distributed to parents /guardians through the drop-off center which will also be the place for the retrieval of the learners’ outputs. While doing this, everyone should strictly observe the health and safety protocol being implemented in schools.
12. How will the teachers communicate with their pupils/students?
The teachers will communicate with their pupils/students through home visitation or with the use of cellphone, messenger, or any online platform, if possible. In here, they can monitor the learning progress of their pupils/students and appropriate assistance to parents can also be extended by the teachers for them to effectively guide in their children’s education.
13. Are there new guidelines on learning assessment?
(May bagong guidelines ba tungkol sa learning assessment sa ngayon?)
As of now, there are no new guidelines yet for learning assessment. In the meantime, the old and existing learning assessment guidelines will be used.
14. Will there be periodical test/exam.?
(Magkakaroon ba ng periodical test/exam.?)
According to DepEd Central Office, there will be no periodical test/exam.
15. What are the important guidelines on the health and safety protocol that should be observed by the schools to keep everyone safe while implementing modular distance learning?
On enrolment, distribution and retrieval of modules and other learning materials, designated areas where the enrolment/distribution/retrieval activities are conducted should be identified with notice of procedures written both in English and in local dialect visibly posted for parents, community, other stakeholders’ information.
Assigned teachers with health personnel/clinic teachers/accredited health volunteers/officials should help run the area observing the above-mentioned minimum health standard protocol to include especially medical triage.
All documents, modules and other learning materials should at all times during the distribution and retrieval be placed in plastic envelopes to facilitate easy disinfection or should remain untouched for 3 days.
Persons handling the enrolment documents, modules and the other learning materials, should wear personal protective equipment (PPE) or at least wear of face mask, face shield/goggles, and hand gloves.
Transacting to parents and other stakeholders who are responsible in getting the modules and submitting the learners’ outputs/returning the modules should be done with utmost care, above all observing social distancing.
Face masks and other potentially infectious materials, in observance to biosafety standards, shall be disposed in a separate sealed container. Assistance from a local health sanitary inspector should be sought for proper disposal.
When a home visit is conducted by the teachers, same minimum health requirements should be observed. Conversation should be done in at most 15 minutes. They should bring their own food and water, if needed.
In all transactions, logbook of personnel, parents and other concerned individuals should be a requirement to facilitate easy contact tracing when necessitated.
16. What will I suppose to do to clearly understand what the school is implementing this S.Y. 2020-2021?
If you want a clear answer to your queries, you can directly ask from the school personnel or from any DepEd personnel that you know. You can also watch on TV or in any online platforms official statements of the higher DepEd authorities or read them from newspapers.
